BROMLEY BOROUGH  LOCAL HISTORY SOCIETY

The 1960s and 70s (Mary Moore)

The Mary Moore Picture Collection

We have been fortunate to acquire a set of photographs recording sites around the Borough held by late BBLHS member, Mary Moore.

Mary, who grew up in Hayes and lived all her adult life in Bromley, died in February 2019 at the age of 89. She was interested in history, conservation and photography and led walking tours of London. She was an early member of BBLHS and the Orpington Photographic Society (OPS) where in the 1960s she set up a project called Group 4, which recorded in black and white many buildings it was known or feared were about to be demolished. The photographs were taken by several different members of OPS and Mary took a second set of colour photographs in 1972 of endangered buildings in Bromley and Beckenham. Happily, some are still with us.

We would like to thank Mary’s nephew Julian Moore for giving us the photographic collection and the OPS for permission to publish the photos taken by the Group 4 photographers.
