Beckenham Post Card 1906

Beckenham Post Card - 1906

A single post card in both its unused and used conditions, with two different Christmas greetings endorsements. Those on which the date can be read were posted in 1906. Nothing is known of the writers and recipients but it is an interesting example of the way postcards were sold and used. The location "Near Beckenham Kent" is hard to locate today, but if you have any ideas, please let us know!

The card was produced by "Raphael Tuck & Sons, Art Publishers to their Majesties the King and Queen". The company started in London in 1866 and gained their royal warrant in 1893. This series of cards, "Oilette", was started in 1903 and were very successful. During WW2, all 40,000 original cards were destroyed by bombing and although the company continued, it finally lost its identity in 1959 when the last Tuck retired.
