Bromley Civic Centre and Old Palace Tour -
Tuesday 18th March 2014

At the invitation of BBLHS member and Hayes Councillor Anne Manning, more than 20 Members were given a tour of the Civic Centre site at the former Stockwell College of Education, once the Bromley home of the Bishop's of Rochester. After an introduction by the Mace Bearer /Attendant, Kim Kilroy-Burns, Anne and the Mayor, Cllr Ernest Noad, gave us a tour of the house and the grounds and the opportunity to look at the mace and chains of office for Bromley. The set of regalia includes the items from the pre-1964 boroughs of Beckenham and Bromley but not any items from Orpington or Penge Urban District Councils which seem to have gone astray. The fifth set of regalia, belonging to the old Chislehurst and Sidcup council, are held by Bexley.
