Although many of the cards are rather cryptic, or even mysterious, they shed some light on Edwardian “down stairs” life. Thank you to Bob Withycombe for including them in the collection. The principle dramatis personae are:

Presumably the 15 year old Maud was on holiday. Address not wholly certain.

Not clear why it was posted in Sevenoaks using a  Swanley picture. Probably from Sidney.
SCS = Sidney Charles Smith. Presumably his holiday dates issue had been resolved.
Surprising to see Bickley has a separate post mark.

Is the mysterious Mr. Hancock flirting?

No idea what this means but it looks like Mr. Hancock again.

Note how late it was posted on Christmas Eve!

Was Barham House in the Bromley area?

T = Tom Withycombe, presumably returning from London Bridge to Bromley North

From Tom again. "A" might be Alice.

The signature is not very clear. Might have been a pet name for her brother, or just a friend.

Card difficult to read in parts. Is that a military post mark?

Maud's mother came from Tavistock

Florence has apparently changed jobs.  Note, Sidney Smith would not be allowed to visit Miss Fosterkew's friend in the house in Croydon Road where she worked.
